The Paddy Wallace Blog – PRO12 Semi-Final
It’s Semi -Final time and Ulster are off to Glasgow again for a 7.45 kick off. This will be a very different match than last week, when players were rested as it would have been a risk to go all out for a home match.
The players will all be getting excited this week, but being full time professionals. It will be a positive feeling. This is what they play for, to be at the business end of the season, with a huge match, some possible revenge for last week’s defeat, and the Pro 12 Final being at the Kingspan. Ulster are the only team playing for a home final, and that will be a great incentive. There would be nothing better than running out in front of the supporters who have made playing at home so special. Chris Henry has posted about his feelings on the Ulster website.
The plan last week was to avoid injuries, but also to reveal as little as possible about what we might do this week. Glasgow, to be fair, will be the same. Our training this week will be razor sharp, with the players bringing their energy and intelligence to the gym and pitch.
Sometimes the training can reach boiling point, and that has to be managed by the back room team. Ulster will be talking about Glasgow’s key players, their strengths and weaknesses, and what we have to do to win.
Every match is physical, but the semi-final will be intense from minute one. Getting this far is great, but to fall at this stage would be gutting. All the effort of the season would come to nothing, and so both teams will be really up for it.
I am looking forward to the match, and a part of me will miss being at the centre of the action, but the rest of me will be watching and joining in with SUFTUM.
